Fun Activities
Magical
Makeover
Conjure up a little pixie magic and make
your guests feel like dainty little fairies
with a sparkly makeover by Tinker Bell
herself! You'll need your choice of lip
gloss that sparkles, glitter blush or eye
shadow, non-toxic nail polish in bright
sparkling colors, and tiny prismatic stickers.
Enlist a fun-loving mom or teenage girl
to play the role of Tinker Bell, complete
with fairy wings, a sparkling face and
a wand to spread her fairy magic. For more
fun, let the birthday child dress up as
Tinker Bell (or her little helper) as well.
As each guest arrives, Tinker Bell should
wave her magic wand and lead them to her
makeover table. There, each guest should
receive a dab of glitter blush, eye shadow
or lip gloss to brighten her face. Allow
each guest to choose her favorite color
of nail polish and give her a quick manicure.
Use a blow dryer to dry fingernails quickly,
or ask each little pixie to flick her fingers
in the air for about sixty seconds. When
nails are dry, let each guest choose a
tiny sticker for each fingernail.
Flower Wreaths
Crown the little fairies
at your party with flower wreaths to make
them feel extra special! Gather fresh flowers,
or purchase silk/paper flowers at a craft
store. If you choose fresh flowers, baby’s
breath is inexpensive, easy to work with,
and delicately beautiful. Miniature roses
or daisies make wonderful wreaths as well.
Provide each guest with a piece of ribbon,
about 3 ft. long.
Demonstrate how to begin: hold a flower
by the stem and lay it flat on the ribbon.
Wrap the ribbon around the stem tightly;
add another flower. Make sure the stems
are always lying flat on the ribbon as
you wind the ribbon around. Continue until
the wreath is large enough to fit a child’s
head; tie a knot with the extra ribbon.
Make wreaths with two shades of ribbon
for a pretty effect!
Smiling Sprites
Your party
pixies are sure to giggle with delight,
even though
they’re forbidden to smile!
The game begins with the children sitting
in a circle, so everyone can see one another.
Let the birthday child start the game by
grinning happily while all other participants
keep straight faces. Once everyone has
seen the birthday child’s big smile,
she then wipes the smile from her face
and throws it to another party guest, who
must catch the smile with his or her hand
and put it on.
After catching the smile and putting it
on, the newly smiling sprite may choose
to throw it to someone else or taunt the
somber players for a few moments with a
wild grin. (Put a time limit on each grin
if players are slow to pass on their happy
role.) Remember that all other players
must remain seated and must not crack a
smile. One smirk and they’re out!
Tinker Bell's Secret Help
Tinker Bell
get a message to Peter Pan with this hilarious
game! Seat your guests in a circle. The
birthday child (Tinker Bell) thinks of
a secret message and whispers it to the
person on the right. Continue until it
travels around the circle to the last person
(Peter Pan) who tells the message out loud.
Compare the message that Peter Pan received
with Tinker Bell's original message! Try
again with another secret and continue
until your guests are ready for another
activity.
Delectable Treats
Shooting
Stars
Create teeny, tiny, star-shaped
treats fit for your little fairies! Simply
make your child’s favorite sandwiches,
remove the crusts and cut them into star
shapes using a small cookie cutter. Or
if you wish, serve sandwiches cut into
small triangles and laid out in a star-shaped
arrangement. (To do this, place sandwiches
in a circle with the points facing towards
the edge of the tray.)
Sparkling Cider
Sparkling cider served
in fancy glasses will make your Tinker
Bell party extra special! Garnish each
drink with a piece of colorful fruit on
the rim of the glass, a silk/plastic flower
or an umbrella. After your little fairies
have finished their drinks, rinse the flowers
or umbrellas with water and let your guests
wear them as hair decorations.
Captain Hook’s Fruit Boat
Create
a fruit salad that's just as fun to make
as it is to eat! To make Captain Hook's
fruit boat, halve a watermelon lengthwise.
Remove the fruit inside with a melon baller,
leaving the rind intact in the shape of
Captain Hook's pirate ship. Combine the
watermelon with other pieces of fruit your
child enjoys, such as sliced bananas, halved
grapes, apple chunks, pineapple, etc. Mix
them together and put them back into the
empty watermelon rind. Use skewers to make
the ship's masts and construction paper
for the sails. Enjoy!
Enchanted Fairy Wand Cookies
You won’t
have to do much to entice your little party
pixies with these sweet treats! Simply
make your favorite sugar cookie recipe
or purchase refrigerated sugar cookie dough.
Roll out the dough and cut it out using
a star-shaped cookie cutter; bake according
to instructions. As soon as the cookies
come out of the oven, and are still soft
to the touch, carefully push a plastic
straw between any two points of the star.
This makes the handle for your magic fairy
wand.
Frost the cookies with glossy icing. To
make glossy icing, simply sift confectioners’ sugar
into a bowl. Slowly add hot water, while
mixing, until it becomes a smooth paste.
Add a few drops of food coloring to make
these treats more fun. These wand cookies
are somewhat fragile, but they’re
delicious and a lot of fun to eat!
Peter Pan’s Peppermint Sodas
Make
your guests feel like they’re in
Never Neverland with Peter Pan’s
special soda! For each soda, you’ll
need 1 cup milk, 1 cup sparkling water,
and 2 scoops peppermint ice cream. Mix
the milk and water together in a glass,
add the ice cream, and serve. To make peppermint
shakes, put all the ingredients together
in a blender and mix well. Garnish with
a sprig of mint for an added touch!
Decorating Tips
Spread
your tablecover on your party table. If
your child has any theme-related toys,
you can add them to the table for a more
festive display. Cut several one-to-two-foot-long
pieces of curling ribbon. Curl the ribbon
by pulling it between your thumb and the
blade of your scissors. Lay the resulting
curls on your table for added color. Hang
balloons in bunches for the best effect.
If you choose to fill balloons with helium,
wait until the party day to ensure they
float well!
Use balloons to mark the party spot; hang
them on the mailbox, near the front door,
or tie them to the birthday child's chair
to mark the seat of honor.
Place balloons anywhere that strikes your
fancy. The more the better!
Gather six or eight streamers and attach
them to the ceiling in the center of the
party room (or over the table). Use a light
fixture over the table, if you have one,
as the center point for the streamers.
To create colorful two-tone streamers,
put two differently colored streamers back-to-back,
twist as you walk them to the wall, and
attach at shoulder height.
Smile for the Camera!
Be sure to take lots of pictures. You and
your child will want to remember this special
party. A helpful hint: Order extra prints
and send them to the parents afterward.
Remember, it's not necessary to have everyone
in each picture. Focus on small groups
and avoid posing all the photos. Candids
capture the laughter best!
