Fun Activities
Pin
the Pigtail on Angelica
This silly activity requires a little
preparation, but will bring giggles from
all your guests! Draw a large picture of
Angelica on butcher paper, posterboard,
or a piece of cardboard. Sketch both of
her pigtails on the drawing, color one
of them in and leave the other one outlined.
Then draw and cut out one pigtail, using
construction paper, for each party guest.
During the party, tack your picture of
Angelica on the wall, and place a piece
of tape on the back of each guest’s "pigtail." Gently
blindfold the birthday child, and let them
go first in honor of the big day. Spin
the birthday child around three times and
point them in the direction of the Angelica
drawing. The object of the game is to place
the pigtail on the picture, as close as
possible to the appropriate spot. When
each child has had a chance to play, award
the guest who come closest with a party
favor!
Spot Race
For this game, cut four spots
out of colored construction paper. Divide
your guests into two teams and form two
lines side by side. Give the first child
in each line two spots and instruct them
to place one spot before them on the floor.
When the game begins, the children must
step on the first spot, place the second
one on the floor in front of them, and
step on it. While stepping on the second
spot, the child must reach behind and grab
the first spot, and place it in front again.
During the game, they can only step on
the spots as they travel around a chair
and back to the next child in line. The
first team to complete the course, wins!
Empty Tommy’s Bottle
Your guests
will roll with laughter during this game!
For each guest, you will need a small baby
bottle. (Borrowing from friends and neighbors
with young children is the easiest way
to find them.) Wash all the bottles and
fill them with equal amounts of juice before
the party. On the big day, have a bottle
drinking race! Line all the contestants
in a row, and give each guest a bottle.
When you say go, each child must empty
the bottle as fast as possible. The first
child to finish is the winner!
Play Pen Adventure
Create an imaginary
playpen obstacle course adventure! Use
chairs, brooms, and big boxes to go in
and out of, around, under, and through.
Divide guests into teams or time kids individually.
For even more fun, have each player ride
a tricycle through the course.
Delectable Treats

Punch
You will need: 1 - 10 oz. package each
frozen strawberries and raspberries,
partially thawed; 1 - 12 oz. can frozen
lime juice concentrate; 1 - 32 oz. bottle
of ginger ale (chilled); 1 - 32 oz. bottle
of club soda (chilled); and 1 pint vanilla
ice cream. Puree berries in a blender and
combine with the lime juice concentrate.
Refrigerate until party time. When ready
to serve, pour mixture into a punch bowl
and add ginger ale, club soda, and scoops
of vanilla ice cream.
Edible Play Dough
Your little rugrats
will love eating and playing with this
delicious dough! To make this recipe, combine
3/4 cup margarine, 1 cup light corn syrup,
1 cup peanut butter, 3 cups confectioners’ sugar,
1 Tbs. vanilla extract, and your favorite
food coloring. Mix together and slowly
add 3 cups of flour. Beat until smooth,
and add more flour if the dough seems too
sticky. Roll the dough into balls about
the size of a golf ball. Refrigerate overnight.
On the big day, give guests a ball of dough
each and let them create monsters, animals,
or anything that come to mind. Provide
plastic bags so guests can take their dough
home to play with and nibble on later.
Crazy Fruit Kabobs
For this recipe, purchase
kabob skewers and your child’s favorite
fruits. Spear melon balls, berries, apple
chunks, etc. on each skewer and serve them
sticking out of the upside down half of
a melon. (Break off the sharp end of the
skewers for younger guests.) The visual
effect is best if all the fruit is skewered
in the same order, with a strawberry speared
on top!
Make Your Own Pizza
This party favorite
is sure to please! Make your own pizza
crust, purchase small ready-made crusts,
or provide English muffins for individual
size pizzas. Place bowls of pizza toppings,
such as cheese, sauce, pepperoni, olives,
green peppers, etc. within easy reach of
your guests. Let each child decorate his
or her own pizza. Bake pizzas for 5-8 minutes,
or until ready. Serve immediately!
Decorating Tips
Spread
your tablecover on your party table. If
your child has any theme-related toys,
you can add them to the table for a more
festive display. Cut several one-to-two-foot-long
pieces of curling ribbon. Curl the ribbon
by pulling it between your thumb and the
blade of your scissors. Lay the resulting
curls on your table for added color. Hang
balloons in bunches for the best effect.
If you choose to fill balloons with helium,
wait until the party day to ensure they
float well!
Use balloons to mark the party spot; hang
them on the mailbox, near the front door,
or tie them to the birthday child's chair
to mark the seat of honor.
Place balloons anywhere that strikes your
fancy. The more the better!
Gather six or eight streamers and attach
them to the ceiling in the center of the
party room (or over the table). Use a light
fixture over the table, if you have one,
as the center point for the streamers.
To create colorful two-tone streamers,
put two differently colored streamers back-to-back,
twist as you walk them to the wall, and
attach at shoulder height.
Smile for the Camera!
Be sure to take lots of pictures. You and
your child will want to remember this special
party. A helpful hint: Order extra prints
and send them to the parents afterward.
Remember, it's not necessary to have everyone
in each picture. Focus on small groups
and avoid posing all the photos. Candids
capture the laughter best!
